Closing the Books Without the Chaos
SJ
Sarah Jenkins
Month-end close doesn't have to be a fire drill. The firms that handle it calmly share one trait: they treat it as a checklist, not a scramble.
Start by reconciling cash accounts first — they surface most discrepancies early, before they cascade into other ledgers. From there, work outward to receivables, payables, and accruals.
Document every adjusting entry as you make it, with a one-line rationale. Future you (and your auditor) will be grateful. A clean trail is the difference between a ten-minute question and a two-day investigation.
